Sophomore third baseman Ryan Gijon-Owen (Puebla, Mexico/Bowie, TX High School) belted two home runs to lead the Hudson Valley Community College baseball team to a 19-7 win over Southeastern Community College in the opening game of a doubleheader played in Whitehall, North Carolina. Southeastern rebounded to take the nightcap, 5-4.
It was Hudson Valley's first win over Southeastern, a NJCAA Division I scholarship program, in six tries dating back to last season.
Sophomore catcher Kyle Sharp (Latham/Shaker High School) also had four hits in the opener for the Vikings.
Sophomore Paul Terry (Waterford/Catholic Central High School) contributed three hits, and sophomore Kody Caulfield (Schenectady/Schenectady High School) added a double and a single for the Vikings in the second game.
