May 2, Troy - Hudson Valley Community College's baseball team stumbled against Columbia Greene Community College at Gear Field this afternoon, suffering an 8-3 loss. Columbia Greene only had one big inning, scoring four runs in the top of the first, but it was enough to keep the Vikings at bay.
Hudson Valley, however, did rally in the fourth inning, which with Silvestre Castro (Norman Thomas) being plunked by a pitch. Justin Meagher (Colonie) moved Castro to third with a single, and Castro came home when Joe Trestick (Ballston Spa) reached on an error. Ryan McGinniss (Catholic Central) then knocked in Meagher with a line drive to left field.
Meagher, a freshman outfielder, had two singles on the afternoon. Joshua Goodbred (Lansingburgh) contributed a seventh inning double, which reached the centerfield wall. He also scored.
Hudson Valley, ranked second among NJCAA Division III Region III teams, is now 24-8. Columbia Greene, ranked third, is 19-9.
