Adam Sopris became the college’s assistant director of athletics and sports information director in July 2017. Sopris oversees the sports information office, which includes marketing and promoting the department’s 20 NJCAA programs and more than 300 student-athletes. Additionally, he coordinates and manges the department’s digital and social media platforms and maintains the athletic department’s website. 

In 2019, Sopris was named the Athletic Academic Coordinator for the department, overseeing academic progress for over 300 student-athletes among the 20 NJCAA varsity programs. He works collaboratively with the academic services on campus, including the Center for Academic Engagement and the Learning Assistant Centers (tutoring/writing center/computer learning center). 

Administratively, Mr. Sopris serves as the committee chair for all assistant coach job postings and assists in the day-to-day operations of the athletics department. He currently participates on the committee for the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (Criteria IV) and is a co-chair of the Student-Athlete Retention Program subcommittee. 

The Capital Region native came to Hudson Valley Community College after working at the NCAA Division III Little East Conference (LEC) in Pawtucket, Rhode Island were he was the primary communications representative for its 19 sponsored collegiate sports. Sopris handled all of the strategic efforts in webcast and website development, new media and sports information, and handled administrative responsibilities in LEC Championships and developed and executed the LEC 30th Anniversary marketing plan.

Prior to joining the LEC, Sopris served the Siena College athletic department in game operations and media relations, where he was responsible for webcasting, video highlights and serving as the primary communications representative for field hockey, golf, softball, swimming and diving and water polo.

As a two-year graduate assistant at the University of San Francisco (USF), Sopris gained tangible intercollegiate administrative experience in an array of departments including corporate sponsorships, media relations, ticketing and promotions. Sopris also completed a game operations internship with the National Basketball Association’s Golden State Warriors while earning his master’s in sport management at USF.

A graduate of Siena College, Sopris holds a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management.
