HVCC Athletics Names Katy Lucey as Head Softball Coach
Hudson Valley Community College director of athletics, Justin Hoyt, has named Katy Lucey as head coach of the Vikings softball program. Lucey will take over a nationally-ranked softball program as current coach, Rick Tedisco, has planned to step down from the position at the end of the season.
An alumna of Hudson Valley, Coach Lucey returns to HVCC with over a decade of coaching experience across various competitive levels. Her résumé includes leadership roles in youth, travel, and high school programs. Most recently, she served as the Varsity Head Coach at Averill Park High School and held a position as Volunteer Assistant Coach with Siena College's Division I softball team.
"I am excited to come on board as the new Head Softball Coach at Hudson Valley," said Lucey. "I look forward to sharing my passion, knowledge, and love for the game with current and future student-athletes. Go Vikings!"
Lucey has been active in the Capital Region softball community for more than ten years, including involvement in youth, high school, and travel ball programs such as the Classie Lassies (2016–2021). Her coaching background includes managing league and team operations and ensuring compliance with required coaching certifications. Throughout her career, she has successfully trained athletes using a wide range of sport-specific drills to foster high-level competition, while also promoting mental wellness, strong self-esteem, and confidence among her players.
"Kathleen Lucey is a dynamic addition to our athletics staff," said Justin Hoyt, Director of Athletics at HVCC. "Her passion for the game and dedication to developing strong, confident student-athletes aligns with the values of our program. We're thrilled to have her lead our softball team into its next chapter."
Lucey earned her Associate of Applied Science in Human Services from Hudson Valley and a Bachelor of Science in Human Development from Empire State College.
