The Hudson Valley Community College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the recipients of the Vikings Student-Athlete of the Month award. The November 2024 honorees are Athena Seebald (Women's Cross Country) and Dalton Howell (Football).
Dalton Howell, a two-year member of the football program, played a pivotal role during the record-breaking Fall 2024 season. A native of Middletown, NY, Howell appeared in seven games this season and 11 games over his two-year career with the Vikings. This season, he passed for 424 yards, five touchdowns, and achieved an impressive 152.8 efficiency rating on 37-of-57 passing. As a backup quarterback, Howell excelled, particularly on September 28th, when he entered the game in the first quarter and led the nationally ranked Vikings to a 37-7 road victory over Erie, advancing the team to a 6-0 record. In that game, Howell recorded a career-high 218 yards on 20-of-31 passing, including one touchdown. He is on track to graduate in May with a degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences.
Athena Seebald, a native of Wynantskill, NY, quickly established herself as one of the program's top-performing student-athletes, achieving personal bests in multiple races this season. Over three consecutive weeks, Seebald set new personal records in the 4K (SUNY Oneonta Airfield Invitational), 5K (Fred Pavlich Invitational), and 6K (James Earley Invitational) races, often competing against strong NCAA programs. She concluded the season with third-place finishes at both the Mountain Valley Conference and NJCAA Region 3 Championships, earning All-Conference and All-Region honors.
In her first semester at HVCC, Seebald has excelled academically, achieving a team-best GPA at midterm while pursuing a degree in Early Childhood and Childhood Education Studies.
The Vikings Student-Athlete of the Month award is presented nine times annually (September through May) to recognize student-athletes for their outstanding academic and athletic achievements.
