The Hudson Valley Community College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the inaugural recipients of the Vikings Student-Athlete of the Month award. The first awards of the season were given to women's soccer sophomore Lauren Foglia and men's soccer sophomore Dillon Halvax, for the month of September.
A two-year starter from Maple Hill, NY, Halvax has been a key component for the men's soccer program. He has consistently demonstrated exceptional talent, leadership, and sportsmanship. This season, he has played in every game to date and has accumulated one point—an assist in a heart-wrenching game at Jefferson.
A 2023-24 NJCAA All-Academic Third Team and All-Region 3 All-Academic selection, Halvax continues to perform well in the classroom, posting a 3.65 cumulative GPA, including a 4.0 GPA in the Fall 2023 semester as an Automotive Technical Services major.
Foglia, a Watervliet, NY native, has embraced a leadership role after being named team captain for the 2024 season. Through the first seven games, she has picked up where she left off last season. Foglia currently leads the team with nine goals, including a three-goal performance against Albany Pharmacy on September 11.
Last season, Foglia played in all 15 games and led the team in goals, assists, and points, while posting a shots-on-goal percentage of .609. She scored in eight straight games to close out the season, helping the Vikings finish with a 6-2 record during that span and secure a top-8 seed in the Region 3 playoffs. She was named to the All-Region 3 Third Team.
Foglia was also named to the NJCAA All-Academic Third Team following a successful academic year, posting a 3.65 cumulative GPA as a Psychology major during the 2023-24 academic year.
The Vikings Student-Athlete of the Month award is presented nine times annually (September-May) throughout the academic year. The award recognizes student-athletes for their outstanding achievements academically and athletically.
