Three Hudson Valley student-athletes earned weekly NJCAA Region 3 Player of the Week honors today, as announced by the Region 3 directors. Nathan Bruce (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville), Mercedes Planavsky (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) and Elijah Washington (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) garnered the honors for their individual performances last week.

Bruce guided the Vikings to two Regional wins last week as the Vikings defeated Tompkins Cortland CC and Monroe CC. Bruce paced the Vikings in the second half of the Monroe game as he scored four of his five goals in the second half leading HVCC to a 16-14 win, the first over the Tribunes since 2009. The Vikings 17-4 win over Tompkins Cortland was their first since 2013.  In the two games Bruce tallied 10 points on 8 goals and 2 assists.

Mercedes won the 5K race at the Mount Saint Mary's College Invitational this week with a final time of 20:23.14. She placed 5th in the 1500 meters race with a time of 5:35.88 and anchored the women's 4x400 relay team, which finished fourth with a time of 4:49.98.

Washington led the field with two-first place finishes in the javelin and shot put events this week. He needed to throw a new personal best of 43.52m in the javelin, a NJCAA national qualifying mark, to earn that victory. In the shot put a distance of 12.47 earned him the win while a 30.79m throw in the discus resulted in a 7th place finish.
