Four Vikings Earn Region 3 Weekly Honors

Four Hudson Valley student-athletes garnered NJCAA Region III Player of the Week honors for their athletic success during the week of Sept. 17 – Sept. 23, 2018. 

Football's Halijah McClean (Fairmont, NC/Fairmont) had a career day in the Vikings 24-22 loss to East Coast Prep. McClean finished the game with 21 carries for 113 yards and scored all three of the Vikings touchdowns including a 53-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for Hudson Valley's first score of the game.

Mercedes Planavsky (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) earned the women's cross country player of the week honor for the second time this year. Planavsky placed eighth overall at the Fred Pavlich Invitational at Bard College on Saturday for the nationally ranked women's cross country team. The Vikings finished in 6th place as Planavsky led the way with a final time of 25:54.3 in the 6K race.

Jared Craw (Colonie/Colonie) also earned the men's cross country player of the week honors for the second time this year. Craw placed second overall in the Fred Pavlich Invitational at Bard College on Saturday, Sept. 22. Craw finished the 8K race with a final time of 28:21.0, which led all NJCAA participants. 

The Vikings No.1 seeded women's tennis student-athlete, Jacqueline Bornt (Wynantskill/Averill Park) earned her second consecutive Region III player of the week honor following an undefeated 2-0 week. Bornt continues her unbeaten streak into this week as she will face Broome and Onondaga at home on Sept. 27 and Sept. 29, respectively.
