The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team (5-4) was defeated 4-1 by No.2 Herkimer on Wednesday afternoon in Troy, NY.

The Vikings fought hard against the Generals for the entire length of the match. After falling behind 1-0 early in the first half, the Vikings remained strong on the defensive side of the ball and prevented Herkimer from scoring again in the first half.

Late in the second half, the Vikings were awarded a free kick from about 25 yards away from the goal. Ryan Euell (Rhinebeck/Rhinebeck) connected with a well-placed free kick and found the top left corner of the net, giving the Vikings its only goal of the match.

Vikings goalkeeper Benjamin Peay (Westerlo/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) played all 90 minutes of the match and recorded six saves as Herkimer outshot Hudson Valley 15-4 in the match.

Hudson Valley finished their toughest stretch of the 2017 season, finishing 0-3 as they faced top national programs in Erie, Genesee and Herkimer. The Vikings are back home this Friday, Sept. 27 to play Jamestown at 4 p.m.
