The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team lost a tough road match-up 3-2 to Erie Community College on Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings gave up two very late goals in the final minute of each half in a competitive back-and-forth game. Hudson Valley scored first at the 34:00 mark when Ethan Thomas (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) sent a cross over the middle and Ryan Euell (Rhinebeck/Rhinebeck) connected with a header for the early 1-0 lead. Erie tied the game up at 1-1 in the final seconds of the half as Erie's Yersel Martle sent a shot through the top left side of the net at the buzzer.

Erie scored again at the 69:05 mark, but the Vikings responded as Garrett Axtmann (Castleton/Maple Hill) converted on a penalty kick at 83:17 for his sixth goal of the season.

The contest was decided in the final minute of the game as Erie's Justus Hoffmann sent a header from a Collin O'Keefe free kick to the back of the net, giving the Kats the 3-2 lead and the win as time expired on the Vikings.

The Vikings immediately return to action Sunday, Sept. 24 when they travel to take on No. 5 Genesee Community College at 3 p.m.
