The Hudson Valley Community College men's soccer team continued its winning ways as the Vikings defeated Mohawk Valley 4-2 to extend its streak to five straight games.

The first half of play was controlled by Hudson Valley as they jumped out to a 3-0 after the first 45 minutes of the game. Carl Kernochan (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) paced the Vikings offense, scoring twice in the opening half. Garrett Axtmann (Castleton/Maple Hill), the Region 3 and NJCAA Player of the Week, continued his scoring streak after he found the back of the net for the Vikings second goal of the game. Axtmann finished with three points as he assisted Kernochan's second goal.

The Vikings goalkeeper, Benjamin Peay (Westerlo/Berne-Knox-Westerlo) recorded four saves on his way to earning his third win on the season.

Ryan Euell (Rhinebeck/Rhinebeck) scored his fifth goal of the season when he placed a free kick passed the Mohawk Valley keeper and into the back of the net for the Vikings final goal of the game.

Mohawk Valley accomplished what the Vikings previous four opponents failed to do, score a goal on Hudson Valley. The Hawk's Noah Dixon's two goals in the second half ended the Vikings scoreless streak that had reached over 405 minutes.

The Vikings will now face its toughest part of its 2017 schedule when they travel to face Erie and No.5 Genesee in back-to-back nights on Sept. 23 and Sept. 24 before hosting No. 2 Herkimer on Wednesday, Sept. 27.
