Richard Aberle Named Head Men's Lacrosse Coach

After a national search, Hudson Valley Community College Director of Athletics, Justin Hoyt named Richard Aberle as the College's men's lacrosse head coach. 

Aberle comes to Hudson Valley after serving two years as an assistant men's lacrosse coach at Union College, a NCAA Division III program in Schenectady, NY. 

Under the tutelage of Union Hall of Fame coach Paul Wehrum, Aberle was a member of the award-winning coaching staff that was voted the 2019 National Coaching Staff of the Year and the East Region Coaching Staff of the Year by the Intercollegiate Men's Lacrosse Coaches' Association as well as the Liberty League's Coaching Staff of the Year recipients. The 2019 Union College lacrosse program finished the season ranked ninth in the country in the final USILA coaches' poll and reached the third round of the NCAA Division III tournament. 

Prior to Union College, Coach Aberle spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator and assistant men's lacrosse coach at Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont. 

Coach Aberle brings extensive coaching experience on the summer camp circuit after spending seven years as a coach for Hall of Fame Coach Dom Starsia at the University of Virginia. He also has coached in camps at perennial programs Princeton, Brown, Hobart and the United States Military Academy. 

Aberle graduated from Green Mountain College with a degree in philosophy and history. During his time at Green Mountain, Coach Aberle was a four-year starter and led his teams in scoring three times and was named Green Mountain's offensive player of the year during his junior season. 

Originally recruited by Bard College in Annandale-On-Hudson, NY, Aberle was named Bard's freshman male athlete of the year. In addition to playing lacrosse in high school, Coach Aberle was named the most valuable player for the alpine ski team at Northwood School in Lake Placid, NY.
