The #19 ranked Hudson Valley Community College football team (8-1) has accepted a bid to the Salt City Bowl in Hutchinson, KS, on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 1:07 p.m. (CST) to face #4 ranked Hutchinson Community College (10-1).
This will be the Vikings' first bowl game since the 2003 Graphic Edge Bowl where the team fell to Ellsworth Community College, 29-23. The only other time the Vikings made a bowl game was in 1980 for the Coca-Cola Bowl where they lost 17-14 to Iowa Central.
Hutchinson is coming off a 10-1 season, having lost only to #2 Iowa Western. The Blue Dragons bring in the No. 6 rushing attack in the nation, led by former Alabama running back Alvin Kamara who is currently committed to Tennessee. Kamara is No. 5 in the nation in rushing with 1,253 yards and No. 3 in rushing touchdowns with 18.
"We are excited to be a part of the Salt City Bowl and to play one of the top teams in the nation. We had a great season, but it didn't end how we wanted it to on our last regular season game. We have another chance to redeem ourselves and we are excited about the opportunity," Vikings head coach Mike Muehling said on the bowl bid.
The Vikings finished the season with an 8-1 record, their best since 1996, where they went 8-0. Details and ticket information for the 2014 Salt City Bowl are available at www.saltcitybowl.com.
