Hudson Valley Community College's Shawn Miller (Troy H.S.) was named Northeast Football Conference (NFC) Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, and teammate Derrick Dyer (John Marshall H.S.) earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week status. The duo was honored for their efforts in Hudson Valley's September 15 victory against SUNY Morrisville.
Miller, a preseason NJCAA First Team All-American selection, had seven catches for a single-game school-record 189 yards against SUNY Morrisville. He also had two receiving touchdowns, including a 68-yard game-winner in the fourth quarter, leading the Vikings to a 27-20 win. Dyer, meanwhile, returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown with just 35 seconds left in the first half. He also caught a seven-yard touchdown pass.
Hudson Valley (2-0) plays at Dean College (0-1) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 22.
Hudson Valley's football program was established in 1969. At the time, Hudson Valley was one of only two junior colleges in New York to field a varsity football team. Since then, nearly 300 Hudson Valley football players have earned scholarships to four-year schools and 15 have gone on to play professionally. The Vikings competed in the Coca Cola Bowl in Iowa in 1980. In 1996, Hudson Valley posted an 8-0 record, part of a dominant stretch that included 15 straight victories.
