The football team at Hudson Valley Community College, ranked 25th in the 2001 NJCAA preseason poll, will hold a Media Day on Friday, August 24. Players and coaches will be available for interviews and photographs from 2 to 3 p.m. at the gym in the college's McDonough Sports Complex.
Head coach Bob Jojo is entering his fourth season at Hudson Valley. After posting a 6-3 mark in 2000, Jojo now has a 15-10 overall record at Hudson Valley. He led the Vikings to a Region III title last year and earned Northeast Football Conference Co-Coach of the Year honors in 1998.
A preseason First Team All-America selection, wide receiver Shawn Miller (Troy) will be a leader for the Vikings. Miller had 33 catches for seven touchdowns in 2000. The Vikings also return quarterback Justin Kastner (Hudson), who had a 137.0 passer rating last season.
Hudson Valley's season begins on the road against Lackawanna College (Pennsylvania) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 1. The Vikings are currently practicing twice a day.
Hudson Valley's football program was established in 1969. At the time, Hudson Valley was one of only two junior colleges in New York to field a varsity football team. Since then, nearly 300 Hudson Valley football players have earned scholarships to four-year schools and 15 have gone on to play professionally. The Vikings competed in the Coca Cola Bowl in Iowa in 1980. In 1996, Hudson Valley posted an 8-0 record, part of dominant stretch that included 15 straight victories.
