Baseball Edged by Niagara in Extra Innings

The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (24-13) falls into the loser's bracket of the NJCAA Region 3 baseball tournament after the Vikings were defeated 11-10 in 11 innings by Niagara on Friday evening in the opening day of the regional tournament in Little Falls, NY. 

Hudson Valley jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning to kick off the opening round slugfest with Niagara.

The Vikings and were tied 9-9 after seven complete innings when Nick Hansen connected for an RBI base hit to right-centerfield in the top of the eighth inning to give the Vikings the 10-9 advantage.

Niagara started the bottom of the ninth with a lead off triple down the right field line, just out of the reach of the Vikings' right fielder Nick Thomas.  Niagara later scored on a sacrifice fly to leftfield, narrowly scoring, as the Vikings couldn't gather the throw at the plate.

In extra innings, Niagara pulled out the victory with an RBI single to left field, defeating the Vikings 11-10 in 11 innings.
