Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (18-10) are on a three game win streak following the series sweep Thursday afternoon against Jefferson at Joe Bruno Stadium. 

Game One: Hudson Valley 14, Jefferson 4 (6 innings)

The Vikings jumped out to an early lead with a three-run first inning and then the Vikings put up a five spot in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach of Jefferson. Jackson Wenstrom(Mandan, North Dakota/Mandan) led the Vikings offense as he went 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. 

Derek Miller(Westernville/Rome Free Academy) helped the offense with two doubles, two walks and scored three of the Vikings 14 runs.Jonathan Montesanti(Niskayuna/Colonie) collected a two run double in the second inning, which put the Vikings up 5-3. 

Luuk Visser(Holland, Netherlands/Thorbecke) continued to hit the ball well as he finished 2-for-3 and scored two runs in the game one win. Salvatore Pezzolla(East Greenbush/La Salle Institute) recorded on hit and added three RBIs. 

Ryan Shumway(Stephentown/Berlin) earned the start and tossed a complete game, allowing four runs on five hits and two strikeouts in six innings. 

Game Two: Hudson Valley 5, Jefferson 4

To secure the sweep, the Vikings had to win in comeback fashion in game two. Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, the Vikings trailed Jefferson 4-3. Pezzolla quickly closed the gap with a leadoff home run over the left field fence to tie the game at 4-4. 

Visser followed Pezzolla with a single and advanced to third base following an error by Jefferson's third baseman. Nick Thomas(Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) walked to the plate with one out and the winning run on third base. Thomas responded with a deep fly ball to right centerfield for the sacrifice fly and the game-winning RBI.

Following a rough two innings, the Vikings pitching staff tossed five shutout innings in a combined effort by Christian Nolan(Guilderland/Guilderland), Jacob Shippey(Charlton/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Joe Duncan(Valley Falls/Hoosic Valley) and Dylan Sheely(Alplaus/Niskayuna). Sheely earned his first win of the season as a byproduct of the walk-off win.

The Vikings are back in action on Saturday, May 5 as they are scheduled to travel to Columbia-Greene. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
