The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (24-13) defeated Onondaga Community College (34-13) 8-5 in the third game of the Sub-Regionals on Monday afternoon.
The Vikings posted two runs in the second inning taking an early lead, but the Lazers responded with one run in the third to cut the lead.
In the fourth, Danny Coleman (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) pushed Hudson Valley further ahead with a three-run homerun. Coleman hit his second homerun of the game in the 7th inning, giving the Vikings 6-2 lead.
In the ninth, Hudson Valley held a six-run lead over Onondaga and only needed three outs to move on to the next round in the Region 3 Tournament. Relief pitcher Clayton Patrick (Schuylerville/Schuylerville) recorded the first two outs of the inning and was replaced by Nicolas Teitter (Saugerties/Saugerties).
In his first appearance on the mound this season, Teitter worked a 2-2 count, before striking out the final batter of the game and securing the Vikings victory.
Starting pitcher Nicholas Zuba (Columbia/East Greenbush) earned the win after going 7.2 innings, striking out three and only allowing four hits.
The men travel to Finger Lakes on Friday for the Region 3 Tournament.
