The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (18-12) defeated Columbia-Greene Community college (4-21) on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings won game one, 15-4 and won game two, 4-3.
Jonnie Benniefield (H.B. Plant/Tampa, FL) pitched a complete game in the Vikings first victory, picking up his first win of the season.
Alex Koshgarian (CBA/Cohoes) and Danny Coleman (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) led Hudson Valley with one home run each. Sean McLaughlin (LaSalle Institute/Melrose), Kyle Bestle (Tamarac/Troy) and Jon Montesanti (Colonie/Niskayuna) each recorded a double in the victory.
In game two, Brien Hollowood (Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake/Burnt Hills) and Clayton Patrick (Schuylerville/Schuylerville) both pitched in the Vikings second win of the day. Hollowood pitched three innings and let up three runs to the Twins. Patrick pitched the remaining four innings to secure the Vikings victory.
Nicolas Teitter (CBA Albany/Green Island) led Hudson Valley with two home runs, and Brendan Haverty (LaSalle Institute/Troy) and Benniefield each recorded a double in the win.
The men host Columbia-Greene tomorrow starting at 1 p.m.
