The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (6-2) defeated Jefferson Community College (3-13) on Tuesday afternoon. The Vikings won 13-3 in game one, and then won on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh in a 6-5 win in game two.
Matt Sand (CBA/Altamont) blasted a two-run homerun, and then Joe Bender (Guilderland/Guilderland) followed it up with a solo shot as the Vikings went back-to-back in the first inning of game one. Hudson Valley put the game away with an eight-run fifth inning behind Brandon Martinez's (River Dell/River Edge, NJ) grand slam. Caleb Gregg (Chatham/Chatham) earned the win on the mound throwing a complete-game with four strikeouts and no earned runs.
The Vikings fell behind by three runs early in game two, but battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth. It wasn't until the bottom of the seventh inning when Darren Conte (Hudson/Hudson) hit a walk-off single to break the tie, giving the Vikings the victory. Conte led the Vikings with three RBIs and Jeff Bink (Colonie/Colonie) added two in the win.
The Vikings travel to Fulton-Montgomery on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
