The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (5-5) split with Jefferson Community College (6-7) on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings won game one, 11-1, but fell in game two, 5-3.
The Vikings jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in the first game. Anthony Scaccia (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) led the team with three hits and five RBIs. Scaccia sealed the game with a three-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth to give the Vikings a 10-run lead. Charles Parslow (Fonda-Fultonville/Fonda) added two hits, and Bradley Adams (Catholic Central/Troy) added a two-run single in the rout.
Game two was a different story and the Vikings rallied late, but it wasn't enough. Down 2-1 in the sixth, Parslow hit an RBI single to tie the game. Two batters later, Adams recorded an RBI double to give the Vikings a 3-2 lead, but Jefferson answered in the top of the seventh with three runs of their own to take game two.
The Vikings host Mohawk Valley on Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
