The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (11-9) split with Mohawk Valley Community College (15-7) on Thursday afternoon. The Vikings fell 6-5 in eight innings in game one, but took game two 3-1 to earn the split.
Hudson Valley rallied in the top of the seventh inning when Alex Lushkevich (Saratoga/Saratoga Springs) scored on a sacrifice fly from John Craig (Shenedehowa/Clifton Park). The Hawks capitalized on a two-out error in the bottom of the eighth to earn the victory in game one. Lushkevich led the team with two hits including a double, two runs and a stolen base, and Anthony Scaccia (Voorheesville/Voorheesville) added two hits in the loss.
The Vikings took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning when Andy Kozak (Sidney/Sidney) scored on an RBI single from Scaccia. The Vikings tacked on another run in the seventh to get the two-run win. Cooper McGowan (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) came in relief to earn the victory on the mound, allowing no runs and striking out five. Kozak continues his tear at the plate going 3-5 on the day with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. He was hit by pitch twice and also issued a walk to reach base safely six times between the two games. Kozak is now batting a Nation leading .600 on the season.
The Vikings travel to Columbia-Greene on Saturday for two games starting at 1 p.m.
