The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (17 - 10) defeated Clinton Community College in a pair of games up north, 11 - 0 and 4 - 1, on Tuesday, April 13. The Vikings are now 12 - 4 in Region III.
In game one, Mike Tietjen (Oneonta, Oneonta) threw a complete one-hit shutout and had a lot of offensive support from the likes of Bob McLaughlin (Bishop Gibbons, Schenectady) who went two-for-three with three RBIs and two runs scored and Mike McCrone (Whitney Point, Binghamton) who had a two-run homerun while going two-for-three. Chris Massaroni (Voorheesville, Voorheesville) went two-for-two in the 11 - 0 win.
Clinton gave the Vikings more of a contest in game two, but Hudson Valley still came away with the 4 - 1 victory. McCrone had another big game, going three-for-four with three RBIs and Ian Hnatov (North Shore, Glen Head) had an RBI on two-for-four hitting. Nick Pontari (Troy, Troy) came in to shut the door for the Vikings as he picked up the save.
The Vikings will play Clinton again at home Thursday, April 15. Game one begins at 2 p.m.
