The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (15-10) played a home-and-home pair of doubleheaders against Herkimer County Community College on Saturday and Sunday, April 10 and 11. The Vikings came away 2-2 over the weekend as they split both days with a 9-5 loss and a 7-6 win on Saturday at Hudson Valley and a 9-8 win and 13-7 loss at Herkimer on Sunday.
In game one on Saturday, the Generals of Herkimer blew open a 0-0 tie in the third inning by capitalizing on a pair of Viking errors and capping it off with a deep homerun to centerfield to take a 5-0 lead. Herkimer led 9-0 late in the contest until the Vikings rallied to make the final 9-5. Bobby Peluso (Columbia, East Greenbush) went three-for-three and Tyler Young (Shaker, Latham) went two-for-four with two RBIs.
The Vikings jumped out early and withstood a General come-back to take the second game 7-6. Luke Burns (Delaware Academy, Bovina) had a big game going three-for-four with a homerun a double and two RBIs.
In game one at Herkimer, the Vikings won another close game, 9-8. Burns went three-for-three and Michael McCrone (Whitney Point, Binghamton) hit a big two-run double. Peluso was two-for-four with an RBI.
The Vikings fell to Herkimer in the last game of the weekend as the Generals pounded Viking pitching for 13 runs. Chris Massaroni (Voorheesville, Voorheesville) went three-for-four with a two-run homerun and four RBI's for the Vikings, while Peluso went two-for-three with an RBI.
The Vikings travel north to take on Clinton Community College today.
