The Hudson Valley Community College (22-7/10-1 Mountain Valley Conference) baseball team swept a doubleheader from Herkimer County Community College (11-11/5-3 MVC) earlier today in Troy. Hudson Valley took the opener, 2-0, and the nightcap, 5-4.
Sophomore pitcher William Lewis (Middletown/Middletown High School) tossed a complete game two-hitter to lead the Vikings in the opener. He struck out seven and walked one, improving his record to 5-1 on the year.
Hudson Valley capitalized off four Herkimer errors in scoring two unearned runs. Freshman Tom Zink (Rotterdam/Guilderland High School) had an RBI single in the fifth inning. Freshman Nick Testo (Wynantskill/Troy High School) scored both Hudson Valley runs.
Sophomore Dan Bruno (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs High School) had two hits, including an RBI double for the Vikings in the second game. Freshman Junior Villalona (New York/George Washington High School) also had an RBI double.
Sophomore pitcher Sean Rowland (Colonie/Colonie High School) allowed three runs on eight hits in six innings of work to improve his record to 5-1.
Herkimer outfielder Paul Newman (Durhamville) had four hits in the nightcap.
Hudson Valley, ranked No. 5 in the latest NJCAA Division III poll, will host SUNY Canton at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19.
