The Hudson Valley Community College (20-7/8-1 Mountain Valley Conference) baseball team swept a doubleheader at SUNY Cobleskill (7-13/4-2 MVC) earlier today. Hudson Valley won the opener, 10-1, and the nightcap, 13-3, and has now won 13 of its last 14 games.
Sophomore Tom Zink (Rotterdam/Guilderland High School) was 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI to lead the Vikings attack in the opener. Sophomore Joel Molina (Middletown/Middletown High School) finished the game two-for-three with a triple and an RBI.
Sophomore pitcher Phil Carr picked up the win on the mound to improve his record to 3-0 on the season. He scattered five hits and one unearned run over six innings of work, striking out three and walking three.
Zink had three hits, including a double and a triple, and drove in three runs in the second game. Freshman Nick Testo (Wynantskill/Troy High School) also had three hits, including two doubles.
Freshman pitcher Junior Villalona (New York/George Washington High School) allowed three runs on five hits in five innings to improve his record to 2-0 on the year. He struck out six and walked three.
Hudson Valley will host a doubleheader with Herkimer County Community College at 3:15 on Monday, April 18.
