Troy, N.Y., May 7, 2002 - Hudson Valley Community College's baseball team downed Jamestown Community College, 9-3, in today's sub-regional playoff game at the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium. The win advances the Vikings to the "Final Four" of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Region III tournament.
Shawn Miller (Troy H.S.) picked up his sixth win of the season by tossing six shutout innings, allowing just three singles and recording four strikeouts. The game was shortened to seven innings because of an eight-run mercy rule, and Hudson Valley's Bobby Krogh (Troy H.S.) threw a scoreless seventh inning, giving up no hits and striking out one batter.
Krogh benefited from a spectacular catch in left field by Mike Harbour (Shaker H.S.), who crashed into the wall with a full head of steam en route to tracking down a long fly ball.
Harbour also helped out with his bat, contributing two singles and a double. Krogh, meanwhile, was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
Hudson Valley (31-13-1 overall) now advances to the next round of the Region III tourney, which begins Friday at Murnane Field in Utica, N.Y., where the tournament becomes a four-team, double-elimination event. Jamestown (14-12) is finished for the season.
