Nick Borgia and Bobby Krogh Lead Region's Pitchers
Hudson Valley Community College's baseball team (9-5) is ranked fourth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Region III coaches poll, which is featured in the weekly Region III athletic report, released today. The report includes statistics from more than 30 colleges from across the Northeast.
Offensively, the Vikings are third in Region III with a .253 batting average. The pitching staff is holding down the number-two spot with a combined 3.94 earned run average (ERA).
Second-year right-hander Nick Borgia (Scotia-Glenville) currently sports the best ERA among Region III pitchers (2.00). The Individual Studies major (1-1) also is second in strikeouts, having recorded 11 in 18 innings pitched. Borgia posted a 3-1 record as a freshman at Hudson Valley.
Bobby Krogh (Troy), a freshman left-hander, is first among Region III hurlers with 12 strikeouts in 14.2 innings pitched. An Individual Studies major, he has the second-best ERA (2.54) and has a 1-1 record.
Hudson Valley Community College, located in Troy, offers more than 50 degree and certificate programs in four academic divisions; Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, Hudson Valley has an enrollment of more than 9,000 students each year, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and worker retraining.
