Diaz Rolon Named MVC Co-Player of the Year

The Hudson Valley Community College women's volleyball team had four individuals recognized on the All-Mountain Valley Conference teams for their tremendous play this season, as announced by the conference.

Sophomore libero Adriana Diaz Rolon (Coeymans/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) was named Co-Player of the Year and garnered First-Team recognition as one of the best players in the conference this year. Adriana was the spark that powered the Vikings program to one of its best seasons in 15 years. Diaz Rolon finished with 448 digs, which was the best in Region 3 and 16th best in the NJCAA. She also led the Region with 5.74 digs per set, which is 10th best in the NJCAA. Adriana was usually the first person to the ball, accumulating 554 receptions (10th best in NJCAA).

Abbigail Newell (South Glens Falls/South Glens Falls) also earned First-Team conference recognition, as voted on by the conference coaches. Abby led the team with 563 attack attempts and finished with a team-best 157 kills (2.01 k/s.) over 78 sets played. She was also a force on the defensive end, accumulating 339 digs with a 4.35 digs/set average, with was third best in Region 3 and top-50 among the NJCAA Division III student-athletes.

Sidney Phillips (Troy/Tamarac) and Regina Ware-Salazar (Selkirk/Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk) were both named to the Mountain Valley All-Conference Second Team. Phillips, in her first year with the team, finished with 122 kills on 416 attack attempts and was one of the best servers on the team, posting 38 service aces on the year. She was also a force on defense, finishing with 15 solo blocks and 15 block assists and 89 digs.

Sophomore Ware-Salazar transitioned from a middle blocker/hitter last season into a top-tiered setter. Her agility, quickness and passing ability allowed her to strive at the new position in 2023. She finished with a team-best 449 assists and 43 service aces in 84 sets played. Her versatility on the court allowed her to make a difference both offensively and defensively. She tallied 20 solo blocks, 16 assisted blocks and added 145 digs on the defensive end of the court, while adding75 kills with a .294 hitting percentage.
