Volleyball Wins Two of Three in Corning Pod

The Hudson Valley women's volleyball program had its best pod results of the season as they won two out of the three matches they played at the Corning pod on Saturday afternoon in Corning, NY. The Vikings defeated Corning and Tompkins Cortland and were defeated by a tough Broome program. 

Hudson Valley 3, Corning 1

In the four-set match, the Vikings nearly earned the sweep after winning the first two sets and narrowly lost the third set 26-24 to the Red Barons. 

Regina Salazar-Ware and Tatianah Zeigler had a big game as they led the Vikings attack with nine kills each. The Vikings defense was also finding their spots as they combined for 34 digs, keeping plays alive for the offensive transitions. Salazar-Ware and Alyssa Bruno also combined for 13 blocks with Regina collecting a team-high seven blocks and Bruno added six in the win.  

Hudson Valley 3, Tompkins Cortland 0

The Vikings followed up their nice match win over Corning with a dominating performance for their second win of the afternoon over Tompkins Cortland. 

Bruno continued to hit the ball well as she finished the game with a team-best nine kills. The team combined for 23 kills and added eight services aces and 14 digs. Alivia Marquez led the team with three service aces and Skyler Kennedy posted a team-best 12 assists. 

Broome 3, Hudson Valley 0

The Vikings closed out the Corning pod with a 3-0 loss to a very tough Broome program, who is among the top-5 among Region 3 programs. 

Kendra Skervin led the Vikings attack with a team-best eight kills and Jasyn Addison followed her up with five total kills. Kennedy posted a big passing number as she finished with 20 assists over the course of the three-set match. Adrianna Diaz-Rolon had a big defensive game against Broome as she finished with a season-best 28 digs on 66 serve receptions. 

Upcoming Schedule

The Vikings return to the court this Tuesday, Sept. 27 when they travel to take on conference rival Mohawk Valley in Utica, NY. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
