The Hudson Valley Community College volleyball program dropped its home conference match 3-1 against Herkimer College on Wednesday evening at the McDonough Sports Complex.

The Vikings couldn't fight back from a slow start against a competitive Herkimer program, but they also refused to go down is straight sets. Following the initial 2-0 deficit, the Vikings rebounded as Skylar Kennedy earned nine straight service points to jump-start the third set, giving the Vikings the 9-0 advantage. The quick start helped build momentum for the remainder of the set and Hudson Valley took the set 25-6.

Herkimer kept the Vikings off-balance early in the fourth set and fought off a comeback effort by Hudson Valley to win the final set 25-14 and the match 3-1.

As a team, the Vikings combined for 13 service aces, including a team-best five from Kennedy. Kennedy also connected on 15 assists to lead the way. Alyssa Bruno finished with six kills and three solo blocks, while Regina Salazar-Ware and Nevaeh Dagle-Vellon each tallied five kills on the night.

The Vikings return to Region 3 action this Sunday, September 18 as they travel to participate in the Erie Community College pod in Buffalo. They are scheduled to take on Erie, Niagara and Jamestown.
