Volleyball Defeats North Country in Straight Sets

Volleyball defeats North Country 3-0 on 9/20/19

The Hudson Valley women's volleyball program (3-4) went on the road and defeated North Country in straight sets 3-0 on Friday night in Saranac Lake, NY. The Vikings improved to 2-0 in the Mountain Valley Conference standings. 

The Vikings combined for 26 kills, 26 assists, 10 service aces and 64 digs in the three-set match. The offensive attack was led by sophomore Jacqueline McCormick, who finished with a team high nine kills and finished with an excellent .500 hitting percentage. McCormick also led the team on the defensive front as she recorded four solo blocks. 

Overall, the Vikings played consistent defense as they had three individuals surpass double-digit digs. Led by libero Laura Grippin and her team-best 18 digs tonight. Madison DeMarco added 13 digs to go with her five kills and four service aces. Andraya Warner-Davis joined with 11 digs and finished with two assists and six kills, while hitting .278.

Leureah Cummings set up the Vikings hitters throughout the entire match and finished with a career-high 24 assists. 

The volleyball team is back in action tomorrow as they return to Saranac Lake for the North Country pod tournament. The Vikings are scheduled to play Jamestown, Niagara and Erie. The first matches in the pod are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
