Women's Track and Field Runner-Up at Regionals

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's track and field programs both finished runner-up at the 2024 NJCAA Region 3 Championships, hosted by HVCC on Saturday at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.
The women's team accumulated 191 total points and finished behind Region 3 champion, Mohawk Valley, who tallied 220.50 points.
Highlighting the team's success was Taiwo Omoya who was dominant in her three dash events. Omoya earned wins in the women's 200m and 400m events and placed second in the 100m dash. She was also a participant in all three relays. Omoya won the women's 200m dash with a time of 29.53 seconds and the women's 400m dash with a time of 1:07.84. Her final 100m time was 13.63 seconds.
Olivia Skylstad, a front-runner for the USTFCCCA Regional Women's Track Athlete of the Year, had a strong day for the Vikings. She placed second in the women's 800m run and tallied a pair of top-5 finishes in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles events. Olivia also ran with the 4x100 and 4x400 team relays.
In the women's long jump, Abigale Dunlavey placed second with a jump distance of 4.57m. She also competed in the high jump and placed sixth overall with a jump of 1.29m. Abigale also collected team points in the triple jump following a third place finish with a jump of 9.34m.
The women's team was dominant in the throwing events as Lamies Hassan, Angelica Slingerland and Jessica Slingerland placed first, second and third, respectively in the women's shot put event. Hassan won the championship with a final throw of 9.66m. Angelica placed second with a throw of 9.22m and Jessica finished third with a throw distance of 8.90m.
Jessica Slingerland and Angelica Slingerland earned points in the discus throw as Jessica placed second with a distance of 28.53m and Angelica was behind her with a throw of 25.75m. In the women's hammer throw, Jessica won the championship with a distance of 27.74m and Lamies Hassan placed second with a throw of 23.09m. Angelica completed the sweep with a third-place finish after tossing the hammer 22.79m.
The Slingerland twins continued their strong day with top-three finishes in the women's javelin throw. Jessica placed second overall with a throw of 27.19m and Angelica was third with a distance of 25.43m.
The women's team is set to compete at the 2024 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships next week, a three-day event, beginning on Thursday, May 9th at Mohawk Valley in Utica, NY.
