Slingerland Leads Women's Track at RPI Meet

The Hudson Valley Community College men's and women's track and field programs competed at the Capital District Classic, hosted by RPI, on Friday afternoon in Troy, NY.

The men's team placed tied for fifth overall as they accumulated 55 points and finished ahead of local NCAA programs, Siena, Sage, and Saint Rose. The men's program also placed first among the participating NJCAA programs, Mohawk Valley and Herkimer.

The women's program tallied 13 team points and placed seventh overall, which had the team finishing ahead of Mohawk Valley and Herkimer and local NCAA programs, Sage and Saint Rose.

On the men's side, Kyler Alston has a record-breaking performance in the 400m hurdles as he set the Vikings school record with an official time of 55.51 seconds. Alston's time had him finishing second overall in the event behind UAlbany's Jack Gallagher. Chauncey Khamani placed fourth in the event with a time of 1:02.16.

Brooks Robson won two events, the long jump and the triple jump, as he continues to dominant in these two events each week. In the long jump, Robson completed an official jump of 6.88m on his sixth jump of the day. In the triple jump, Robson recorded a distance of 13.89m on his second jump of the day to win the event.

Kejhaune Lester earned eight team points as he placed second in the men's 200m dash. Lester finished behind Utica's Ethan Kain and posted a time of 23.07 seconds.

Leading the way for the women's team was Angelica Slingerland, who earned a fourth-place finish in the javelin throw. Slingerland recorded a distance of 27.48m on her second throw of the day. In the women's 400m hurdles, Olivia Skylstad placed sixth overall with a time of 1:15.00.

The 4x400 team of Skylstad, Madison Washburn, Abigale Dunlavey and Taiwo Omoya placed fourth overall with a time of 4:47.83 and earned five team points.

Up next for the track and field program is the NJCAA Region 3 Championships, which is hosted by Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday, May 4th at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on the campus of HVCC.
