Enters 3rd season as tennis head coach in 2023-24

Coach Perry enters his fifth season at Hudson Valley and his third season as head coach of the women’s tennis program. Coach Perry was previously an assistant women’s basketball coach from 2019-2023, where assisted with the recruitment of new student-athletes.

The tennis program has seen a resurgence under Coach Perry’s leadership over the last three seasons. The program has a strong roster with 12 student-athletes at the beginning of the 2023-24 season and the program expects to compete for the NJCAA Region 3 championship during the spring championship season.

In 2022-23, the women’s tennis program placed second in the Region 3 championships and qualified for the NJCAA national championships in Peachtree, Ga, where the team placed sixth overall, one of the best team finishes over the last several years.

In 2021-22, the program returned to the court following the pandemic with just four student-athletes and were led by Emma Nuzzi as the team’s top-flight singles player. The program had just four matches and qualified for the Region 3 postseason.

Coach Perry is also an established basketball coach as he has been active in the Women’s College Basketball arena since September 2000 with his first Assistant Coaching assignment at the Junior College of Albany (Division II, NCAA), Albany, New York. Since then, he has amassed a total of 267 wins while coaching as an assistant at Junior College of Albany, SUNY Cobleskill (Division III, NJCAA and Division III, NCAA), Sage Colleges (Division III, NCAA) and now Hudson Valley Community College (Division III, NJCAA). 

During these seasons, Coach Perry has coached five teams to 20 plus win seasons.  Additionally, the 2014 Sage Colleges’ team won the Skyline Conference and participated in the NCAA Division III National Tournament. His teams have been ranked as high as #5 and #7 overall in the nation and #2 in the nation at team defense. 

While at SUNY Cobleskill, the team won the Division III, NEAC regular season title in their first year of competition at the NCAA level after Cobleskill made the jump out of the NJCAA. Perry has recruited several amazing student-athletes including those honored as members of their All-Conference teams, five 1,000-point scorers, two 1,000 rebound recipients, and a universities’ Female Athlete of the Year. 

Perry is a Member of the Basketball Coaches Association of New York where he received the Assistant Coaches Award in 2015. He is also a Member of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and attends their annual conference.  Perry holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Cornell University and M.S. from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
