Tennis Falls Short in Battle vs Castleton

The Hudson Valley Community College women's tennis match vs Castleton came down to the very end as they were defeated 5-4 via a tiebreaking set on Monday afternoon at the tennis courts on the campus of HVCC.

The Vikings started strong as they claimed two of the three doubles matches and took a 2-1 advantage into the singles portion of the day. Hudson Valley's top doubles team of Keely Legnard and Mia Manera earned their first doubles win of the season after claiming an 8-1 match victory. Aubrie Murphy and Zara Cole continued to play well, claiming the No. 2 doubles match by the score of 8-4.

In the singles portion, Legnard won her third straight match as the Vikings top-flight player, winning her set 6-2, 6-3. Katie Ziegler earned a win in her first collegiate competition of her career, defeating Castleton's Olivia Rutkowski in the No. 5 singles flight.

After three consecutive days of matches, the Vikings have a couple days off before returning to the courts this Thursday, April 18th as they host Herkimer at 4 p.m. in the HVCC campus.
