Tennis Wins Season Finale; Ready for Regionals

The Hudson Valley Community College women's tennis program closed out the regular season with an impressive 6-3 home win over Herkimer on Tuesday afternoon at the HVCC Tennis Courts on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY.

The Vikings top-seeds, Aubrie Murphy and Zara Cole won all of their matches and provided Hudson Valley with three points as Murphy swept her match in the first flight and Cole won her matchup in straight sets as the second-seed. The duo then teamed up at No. 1 Doubles to win 8-3 over Herkimer's top duo. 

Sidney Phillips and Ckailea Kewley also won all of their matches as the Vikings No. 3 Doubles (8-2) duo and individually as the team's No. 5 and No. 6 Singles flight. Phillips won her fifth-seeded match in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 and Kewley won her sixth-seeded singles match 6-0, 6-1. 

The Vikings are poised to compete in the NJCAA Region 3 Tournament on Sunday, October 23 at Mohawk Valley, beginning at 10 a.m. Hudson Valley's Murphy will enter the tournament as the region's top-ranked player and will have a first-round bye and will compete for the No. Singles Regional Championship. 

Cole (No. 2) and Phillips (No. 5) earned the second-seed in their respective flights and will take on the No. 3 seeds in the first round. Erin Innerarity (No. 3), Emma Spadaro (No. 4) and Ckailea Kewley (No. 6) will enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed among their respective flights. 

In doubles, the Vikings top duo of Murphy and Cole have earned the region's top-doubles ranking and will compete for a championship with a first-round bye. Innerarity and Spadaro (No. 2) and Phillips and Kewley (No. 3) will compete in the first round as the third seed among their double flights.
