Bornt Wins NJCAA Region 3 Championship

The Hudson Valley Community College women's tennis student-athlete, Jacqueline Bornt (Wynantskill/Averill Park) won the NJCAA Region 3 Championship as the regionals top-singles player on Sunday, October 7 at the Drumlins Tennis Center in Syracuse, NY. 

Bornt defeated Onondaga's Micah Mixon in straight sets 6-1,6-0 to claim the No. 1 Singles Championship and in doing so, she has qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament on November 2 – 4 in Peachtree City, Georgia. 

Jackie completed an undefeated season as the Vikings top-ranked singles player with an 8-0 regular season record. Bornt became the second Viking in as many years to win a Region 3 Championship. Sarah Sampson won her NJCAA Region 3 title last season as the team's No. 3 singles flight. 

On Saturday in the NJCAA Region 3 semifinal round, Bornt defeated Mohawk Valley's Autumn Fallon in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 to earn a spot in Sunday morning's finals. 

Onondaga's Mixon earned a spot in the Region 3 Championship match with Bornt by defeating Broome's Shyanne Daye in a tough three-set match. After falling behind 6-3 in the first match, Mixon defeated Daye 6-2, 6-4 to the overall match win.
