Kurtis Smith enters his third season as head coach of the Vikings women’s soccer program in 2023-24.
In 2022-23, Coach Smith guided the Vikings to a 6-9-1 record and secured a NJCAA Region 3 playoff berth, which they upset Jefferson 3-0 on the road to earn a spot in the Region 3 semifinal round, a matchup with top-seeded Mohawk Valley for the second straight season. As a team, the soccer program scored 33 goals in the 15 games (2.20 goals/game) and averaged 9.6 shots per game.
In 2021-22, Coach Smith joined the program a couple weeks before the season started and he did a tremendous job positioning the women’s soccer program to a 9-6 record and a home playoff game, which the Vikings defeated Jefferson 3-0 to advance to the Region 3 semifinal round against top-ranked Mohawk Valley.
Coach Smith is currently involved with a couple women’s soccer clubs, the New York Shockers Women (WPSL), which he is the head coach. He is also committed to Beestera Soccer Training as the program’s Director of Team Training, based out of Albany, NY.
In 2021, Coach Smith was the head coach of the Hudson Valley Crusaders Women (UWS2) and prior to that, he was the Director of Coaching at the Hudson Valley Premier Soccer league based out of Saugerties, NY.
Coach Smith brings international experience to Hudson Valley following his coaching roles at Shrewsbury Town FC (England) in 2016-17 and Cardiff City FC (Wales) from 2014-16. He was also a team coach for the University of South Wales men’s program and a youth coach with Newtown FC (Wales) from 2009-2015.
