Bechtel Scores Twice, Women's Soccer Wins 3-1

The Hudson Valley Community College women's soccer needed a few extra seconds to put Adirondack away as they Vikings won 1-0 in overtime at the Outdoor Athletic Complex on Thursday evening on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

A little over half way through the first half of the game, Alison Waldron put the Vikings on the board as she nailed a far cross to the top right side of the net, just out of the reach of the Timberwolves goalkeeper. Just before halftime, Adirondack tied up the game with a pretty header off a direct corner kick for the score.

Following more tactical back-and-forth, the Vikings scored again for the go-ahead goal. Grace Mathes set up Mikayla Bechtel with a nice pass as Bechtel finished the play for her fifth goal of the season and her second in as many games.

Nearly 13 minutes later, Bechtel found the back of the net again for the second time today (6th overall), assisted by Waldron. Bechtel gave the Vikings some breathing room as she extended their lead to 3-1 with just under seven minutes remaining in the game.

The women's program aims for its third straight win as they return to the road for their next match and travel to play North Country on Sunday, October 3 at 1 p.m. in Saranac Lake, NY.
