The Hudson Valley Community College women's bowling team earned the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year Award for having the highest cumulative team grade point average among all women's bowling teams in the nation among NJCAA colleges. Additionally, Hudson Valley's softball team and tennis team earned NJCAA recognition for having team cumulative grade point averages above 3.0.
The seven members of the women's bowling team, coached by Joe Prest, posted a 3.06 team grade point average in 2006 and was the only women's bowling team in the NJCAA to have at least a 3.0 GPA. In addition to its classroom exploits, the Lady Vikings had already captured the 2006 Region III championship and finished second in the nation at the NJCAA championship.
The members of the 2005-06 women's bowling team were Kristina Jenkins (East Greenbush/Columbia High School), Kristen Koenig (Wynantskill/Catholic Central High School), Madison Spickler (Watervliet/Watervliet High School), Tia-Marie Stevens (Averill Park/Averill Park High School), Jennifer Strom (East Greenbush/Columbia High School), Brenda Tilley (Melrose/Hoosic Valley High School) and Michelle Villeneuve (Berne/Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School).
The women's tennis team had a 3.09 grade point average and the softball team had a 3.0 GPA.
