Women's Basketball Falls to North Country

The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team dropped their final regular season home match 81-60 to North Country, a top program in Region 3, on Monday evening at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. 

In the opening quarter, the Vikings and the Saints traded baskets, but the Vikings finished the quarter trailing 16-13, while shooting 22 percent from the field. Heading into the second quarter, the Vikings' leading scorer, Kat Stackrow scored 13 points in the second to put pressure on North Country. Stackrow shot 4-of-4 from the field, including 3-of-3 from behind the arc in the quarter. North Country utilized its depth and outscored the Vikings 23-15 and entered the halftime break leading 39-28 over Hudson Valley. Stackrow finished the game with a game-high 30 ppints in 37 minutes of action. 

In the third quarter, the Saints pulled away from the Vikings as Hudson Valley was outscored 24-11. However, in the fourth, Hudson Valley continued to fight and won the fourth quarter 21-18. Junasia Lanier hit double figures for Hudson Valley as she finished with 12 points in 27 minutes of action. 

As a whole, Hudson Valley shot 42 percent on 21-of-50 field goals from the floor, including 50 percent from behind the arc. 

The women's basketball team closes out the regular season this Wednesday, February 16, when they travel to take on Fulton-Montgomery at 5 p.m. in Johnstown, NY.
