The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team dropped a tough conference match 78-70 against Fulton-Montgomery Thursday evening at the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College.

An evenly matched game, the Vikings and Raiders traded baskets throughout the first period of the game. The Vikings were led by Kat Stackrow, who posted 10 points with three rebounds, while the Raiders were led by Kiarra Kennedy, who shot 3-of-7 from the floor for 11 points. The Raiders entered the second period leading 24-22 over Hudson Valley. Stackrow finished the game with a team-high 21 points with nine rebounds and five steals.

The second period was a defensive battle that resulted in the Raiders going on a short cold streak, allowing the Vikings to shoot 8-of-16 in the quarter and enter the halftime break leading the Raiders 40-38. Leemya Garcia and Nya Ewans-Edmonds both had strong second periods as they combined to score 15 of the Vikings 18 second quarter points. Garcia's final stat line was 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting in 40 minutes of action. Ewans-Edmonds posted another double-double with 18 points and a team-best 13 rebounds.

Coming out of the break, the Vikings and Raiders continued to trade baskets as each team hit eight field goals with the Vikings shooting 24-of-54 and the Raiders shooting 22-of-57 for the game. Junasia Lanier finished the quarter with seven points, giving the Vikings four individuals in double-figure scoring as the Vikings ended the quarter leading 58-55, setting up an exciting finish to the game.

In the final quarter, the Vikings ran out of energy in the early minutes and the Raiders took advantage of it and kicked off the quarter on a 12-1 run to take a 67-59 advantage with less than five minutes remaining. The Vikings continued to fight back but ultimately couldn't find a fourth quarter answer to the efficient shooting of the Raiders.

The Vikings hit the road this weekend as they travel to take on Mohawk Valley on Saturday, February 12 at 2 p.m. in Utica, NY. In the previous matchup, the Vikings defeated the Hawks 58-45 on January 13th.
