Women's Basketball Earns Tough Win over Mohawk Valley

The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team came out victorious in their first match of 2022 when they defeated Mohawk Valley 58-45, Thursday evening in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. 

The Vikings and the Hawks played a close first half with Hudson Valley taking a 32-29 lead at the break. The Vikings finished the first half shooting 14-34 from the floor at 42 percent, including 3-for-3 from the free throw line. 

In the second half, Hudson Valley pulled away from Mohawk Valley, outscoring the Hawks 26-16. The Vikings were led by Kat Stackrow, who finished the game with 31 points on 11-of-23 shooting, including 2-of-7 from behind the arc and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. Stackrow added 11 rebounds for her fourth consecutive double-double.

Junasia Lanier made her season debut and did not disappoint as she finished with 12 points on 6-of-16 shooting with eight rebounds, two assists and a game-high five blocks. Alyssa Bruno grabbed a game-high and personal best 15 rebounds in a season-high 35 minutes of action. 

The women return back to the court on Sunday, January 23 when they welcome the Broome Hornets to the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College for a schedule 1 p.m. tip.
