Women's Basketball Defeated by Adirondack

The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team dropped a tough home match 64-62 against Adirondack on Wednesday evening in the McDonough Sports Complex. 

The Vikings took an early 17-11 lead over the Timberwolves at the end of the first quarter as they were led by Kathryn Stackrow's 10 points in the quarter. Stackrow finished the game with a team-best 26 points with nine field goals and added 7-of-8 from the free throw line. 

Adirondack started the second quarter with a 10-2 run, pushing the Vikings back into a timeout to regroup and adjust for the remainder of the half. Adirondack jumped over Hudson Valley to lead 21-19 as a result of the early run. Hudson Valley finished the quarter with nine points and their counterparts, continued to carry the momentum following their quick start and entered halftime with a 31-29 advantage. 

The second half was evenly matched as both programs scored 33 points, with Adirondack pulling through for the two-point road victory. The Timberwolves earned a comeback victory in the fourth quarter after the Vikings used a 21-14 third quarter to take a 50-45 advantage over Adirondack. 

Adirondack ultimately won the game in the final minutes of the game and shot 8-of-13 from the free throw line on their way to outscoring the Vikings 19-12 in the final quarter. 

The Vikings are off for the next 10 days before they travel west to take on Finger Lakes on Nov. 20 and Corning on Nov. 21. The Finger Lakes game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Canandaigua, NY, while the Corning game is set for a 12 p.m. start in Corning, NY.
