Women's Basketball Dominates in Season Opener

The Hudson Valley Community College women's basketball team kicked off the start of the 2021 season with a 66-33 home win over Orange on Thursday evening in the McDonough Sports Complex on the campus of Hudson Valley Community College. 

In its first competition since late February 2020, the Vikings women's basketball team put together a convincing win behind Kathryn Stackrow, who finished with a game-high 25 points and added four steals in just 28 minutes of action. Stackrow finished 12-of-13 from the floor and posted her first double-double with 13 total rebounds.

Nya Ewans-Edmonds also posted a double-double, nearly missing a triple-double in her first action for the Vikings. Ewans-Edmonds shot 5-of-9 from the floor for 10 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and tallied nine assists in 31 minutes of action. 

Leemya Garcia is the third Viking to post double-digit scoring with 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting. Hailey Cascioli added seven points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes. 

Leading the way for the Orange Colts was Nevaeh Ramirez, who finished with a double-double, shooting 5-of-15 from the floor and grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds in 37 minutes. 

The Vikings women's basketball program returns to the court with a tough back-to-back weekend slate as they travel to play Herkimer on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. and then hit the road to play Jefferson in Watertown on Sunday, Nov. 7a t 1 p.m.
