Second Half Scoring Propels Women's Basketball to Win

Hudson Valley's women's basketball team (7-3) utilized a third quarter scoring spree to defeat Tompkins Cortland 86-71 in McDonough Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings entered halftime trailing the Panthers 30-28 but they were able to rebound in the second half to secure their seventh win of the season. 

Hudson Valley regained the lead following the third quarter in which the Vikings outscored the Panthers 28-15 and took an 11-point advantage into the final quarter. Hudson Valley stepped up the defensive intensity and continued to pull away from the Panthers in the final 10 minutes of the game. 

Hannah Kreiger (Brunswick/Tamarac) led the Vikings third quarter comeback as she scored 12 of her game-high 25 points. Kreiger connected on seven field goals, including six from behind the arc. Madison Graber (Schenectady/Schalmont) also scored double-figures as she finished with 19 points, with 13 points coming in the second half. Graber also connected on three field goals from beyond the three-point line. 

Taylor Engster (Troy/Catholic Central), Lyndsay Miller (Loudonville/Shaker) and Caitlin Estes (Scotia/Scotia-Glenville) all reached double-digit scoring and combined for 34 points. Miller and Estes each finished with 10 points and Engster added 14 points. 

Hudson Valley is on the road tomorrow as they play a rescheduled matchup with Schenectady at 1 p.m.
