Softball Hitting Stride with 11 Straight Wins

The Hudson Valley Community College softball team continued its recent success and extended its win streak to 11 straight games after sweeping Niagara on Friday afternoon in Sanborn, NY.  

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 16, Niagara 0 (Final – 5 Innings)

The Vikings continued to utilize a big first inning as they rallied to score six runs in the top of the first inning to take full control of the game. As a team, they combined for 11 hits and did not commit a defensive error.

Leading the way at the plate for the Vikings was Abby Taylor, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Izabelle Ratcliffe continued to swing a hot bat, collecting two hits with two runs scored and an RBI. Taylor, Ratcliffe, Kayden Craft and Anna Siter each recorded a double and Kaitlyn Neumeister went deep for her first home run of the season. Neumeister finished the day 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI.

Anna Siter earned the start and tossed a complete game shutout over the five innings of play. Siter faced 18 batters, allowed three hits with five strikeouts. Siter was economical in the circle as she only needed 48 pitches for the complete game.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 16, Niagara 3 (Final – 5 Innings)

The second game was similar to the first game as the Vikings offense exploded for 16 runs for the third consecutive game on on 16 hits, including 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Vikings offense was led by a variety of players as all nine individuals recorded at least one hit. Abby Taylor continued her strong play with a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs scored and two RBIs. Kayden Craft controlled the tempo as the leadoff hitter, finishing 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and three RBIs.

On the mound, Reegan Mullen earned the win with a complete game, tossing five innings and allowed three runs on three hits, five walks and 10 strikeouts.

ON DECK:

The softball team doesn't have a break as they are back in action on Saturday, April 27th for a crucial doubleheader at Monroe in Rochester, NY. The doubleheader is set to begin at 12 p.m.
