Softball Rolls in Sweep over TC3

The Hudson Valley Community College softball team is running on all cylinders after they completed the series sweep over Tompkins Cortland for its ninth straight win on Thursday afternoon at the HVCC Softball Field in Troy, NY.

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 11, Tompkins Cortland 0 (Final – 5 Innings)

The Vikings utilized a huge first inning to defeat Tompkins Cortland 11-0 in five innings to start the doubleheader. As a team, Hudson Valley recorded 10 hits and did not commit a defensive error behind a pitching gem by Moira Collins. Collins tossed a complete game shutout and allowed three hits, one walk and nine strikeouts to earn her ninth win of the season.

At the plate, Kayden Craft led the way with a team-high three hits and scored two runs. Anna Siter tallied two hits, including a two-run single in the bottom of the third inning, scoring Craft and Angelise Montanez. Reegan Mullen also collected two hits with one run scored and an RBI. Grace Harris had one hit, but it was a big RBI double in the bottom of the first, which gave Hudson Valley an early 3-0 lead at the start of the game.

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 16, Tompkins Cortland 0 (Final – 5 Innings)

The second game was similar to the first game as the Vikings offense exploded for 16 runs on 11 hits, including eight runs in the top of the first inning. The Vikings offense was led by a variety of players as nine individuals recorded at least one hit in the game. Erin Madsen and Nadia Hotaling each tallied two hits and combined to score four runs and drove in two runs.

Hudson Valley utilized the long ball in game two as Reegan Mullen and Abby Taylor both sent pitches over the fence for home runs. In the first inning, Mullen broke the game open with a grand slam home run deep over the center field fence. Taylor connected on a three-run home run in the third inning, which highlighted the seven-run inning.

On the mound, Reegan Mullen and Anna Siter tossed a combined perfect game as they tossed five complete innings and did not allow a hit or a walk, while striking out nine batters.

ON DECK:

The softball team is in the midst of a 3-day, six game gauntlet and they continue tomorrow, Friday, April 26 as they travel to take on Niagara at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the Vikings will visit Monroe Community College in Rochester for a crucial doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
