Softball Sweeps Broome; Collins Records 100th Strikeout

The Hudson Valley Community College softball team has found its rhythm as they extended its win streak to seven straight games after they swept SUNY Broome on Tuesday afternoon in Binghamton, NY.

GAME ONE: Hudson Valley 18, SUNY Broome (Final – 5 Innings)

As a team, the Vikings combined for 14 hits and had four individuals collect two hits each, including Izabelle Ratcliffe who finished 2-of-2 at the plate with a double, triple, two runs scored and one RBI. Kayden Craft collected a team-high three RBIs as she finished 2-of-3 at the plate and scored three runs.

Angelise Montanez, Grace Harris and Nadia Hotaling combined to go 6-of-10 at the plate with six runs scored.  

Moira Collins was in the zone in the pitching circle as she tossed another complete game, pitching five innings and allowed zero runs on two hits with 12 strikeouts. Collins faced 19 batters and threw 61 strikes on 82 total pitches. In the win, Collins surpassed the 100 strikeouts milestone, becoming the third pitcher to surpassed the mark in the last three seasons (Shea Peckowitz – 2022 & Carly Gemmett - 2023).

GAME TWO: Hudson Valley 17, SUNY Broome 1 (Final – 5 Innings)

The second game was similar to the first game as the Vikings offense exploded for 17 runs on 14 hits and were led by Ratcliffe who finished a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and scored three runs scored and four RBIs. Anna Siter collected two hits and drove in four RBIs.

Hotaling continued to swing the bat well in the second game, going 2-for-4 at the plate and scored twice. Harris and Montanez also collected a multi-hit game with Montanez scoring three runs and Harris scored twice and drove in a pair of runs over the five innings played.

Reegan Mullen and Siter combined to pitch a one-hitter with seven strikeouts. Mullen earned the start and pitched three innings and allowed one run on one hit with four strikeouts. Siter closed out the final two innings and did not allow a hit or a walk while striking out three Broome batters.

The softball team returns home for senior day on Thursday, April 25th as they host Tompkins Cortland at 3 p.m. at the Hudson Valley Softball Field. The senior recognition will take place at 2:30 p.m.
